Phone addiction the new curse.
It's not just the kids these days but the adults, both the parents generation as well the grand parents generation who are glued to the cell phone.
We blame that children don't read and that they lack basic knowledge about how the simple work is to be done around household or in the yard or in their own car, but we forget that children learn what we show them.
We millennial are the generation who saw the introduction of cell phones and the shift from landline and PCs to mobiles and laptops. We went from reading a hard/soft cover book to reading in a kindle. Later on reading on our phones, that is if we aren't wasting time on tick tock or reels or YouTube shorts.
It was our generation which had the opportunity to learn from our parents how to do work around the house, in the house and around a vehicle.
But with the advent of all that, the new tech created a gap between us and simple elbow grease work. We can still do it but when we have apps that allow you to call someone and get the work done why would we want to move a single finger. Its normal for human body to find comfort and be lazy, but comfort and being lazy doesn't do any good.
We have involuntarily taught our coming generation that it's ok to sit in front of a cell phone or tablet and watch shorts and reels and videos. Either your having lunch or dinner or your bored it's fine as we ourselves are doing that.
The saddest change I see in schools these days is they encourage using a smart board rather than normal chalk board and students aren't encouraged to get books issued from school libraries.
The sight of at least a book store in every neighbourhood is a dream now as many simply prefer to read online if they wish to read. Gone are the days when we used cherish the smell of new book and the happiness of exchanging books with friends and reading more books in limited budget.
The feel of an old, dog eared book that a senior gives you to read, connected us in some way or other, as to me it showed that they payed attention to me, my liking, my thinking process, and sometimes my down phases. And that lead them to recommending that particular book to me.
Now that phase is dying.
We can still save it yes we can buy for that we must control our own addiction of phone then only we can teach the younger generation other things. We must prove that it's not a necessity.
